In line with wine and cheese, macaron is one of the French delicacies becoming increasingly famous and accessible.
In France, the most famous Parisian patisseries making macarons (Ladurée, Dalloyau, Pierre Hermé and Fauchon) produce tens of millions of macarons each year!

1. Macarons taste amazingly good

The meringue based cookies give a light and aerial taste which makes them melt in your mouth.
The combination with ganache invariably results in an envy to have one more…

2. The diversity of macarons is infinite

Pastry chefs can use different flavours for the ganache & shells. They can keep creating new combinations for the enjoyments of food lovers! While the most famous flavours are probably Raspberry, Chocolate and Salty Caramel, new creations such as Chocolate & Passion Fruit, Rose & Quince or Chocolate & Foie Gras are just a delight.
You will never be able to say “I’ve tried them all”.

3. A perfect out of the ordinary gift

Macarons can be easily and nicely packaged often resulting in colourful combinations.
Men as much as women can be offered such a chic gift.
They are also ideal to bring when you are invited for lunch or dinner.

4. Macarons are ideal for all sweets moments

Because they are fairly small in size, you would enjoy a macaron with your coffee instead of a banal cookie.
Or you can enjoy assorted macarons (4 to 6) for a full sized dessert.
While croquembouche will always be the traditional dessert for celebrations as a wedding cake for instance, a macaron tower does procure an enjoyable and impressive alternative…

6. Macarons can be made by everyone

It is only after taking a macaron cooking class at the Sweet Artist Academy in Perth that we realised that anyone can make macarons, you just need to learn how to… Don’t get us wrong, making macarons is not easy but with a teacher such as Patrick, you can definitively learn it. Like everything in cooking, it is mainly a matter of time.
The beauty is that you can also freeze macarons! So you can spend a couple of hours making 100 macarons and enjoy them for weeks! Obviously that will be with some concessions on their taste as they would not be as crunchy after defreezing.
You can find Macaron cooking classes by searching in the calendar of our courses and classes page.

5. Macarons can be stored longer and are reasonable in price

Macarons can be stored for up to five days, ideally in the lower shelf of the refrigerator.
To enjoy the best of their flavour, you should remove them from the fridge half hour before serving.

Because of their storage capabilities, patisseries don’t have to throw them in the bin every day to the contrary of other pastries
(don't forget to ask the shops when the macarons were cooked).
This greatly contributes to their celebrity as it brings an extra flexibility and to their price which typically ranges from
A$2 to A$3 a piece in Perth.

Macarons are basically made of two meringue based half shells filled with a cream also called ganache.
Food colouring is used to give their (sometime fancy) appearances while their taste mainly comes from the ganache. Macarons can also be called macaroons which is an Anglicisation of the French word.
